Penelope Smart (b. Red Lake, Ont) is a curator and writer. She holds an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCADU (2013) where she received the President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies. Smart has held curatorial positions at MULHERIN galleries (Toronto/New York) and The Art Gallery of Ontario. In 2016/2017, she founded and directed a 12 month project space and gallery called The Dayroom. Most recently Smart was Director of Eastern Edge Gallery in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Her writing has appeared in Canadian Art, C Magazine, Magenta and Spiffy Moves as well as in a variety of exhibition essays and independent artist publications. Smart approaches exhibitions as a place of risk-taking, life and mystery.
